Adam Osborne invented the laptop because he believed computers would be more beneficial to consumers if they were portable. He set up Osborne Computer Corporation and employed the computer designer Lee Felsenstein before launching the first laptop, known as the Osborne I, on April 3, 1981, at the West Coast Computer Fair in San Francisco. The Osborne 1 is the first commercially successful portable microcomputer, released on April 3, 1981 by Osborne Computer Corporation. It weighs 10.7 kg (24.5 lb), cost US$1,795, and runs the CP/M 2.2 operating system.
